International Rose day, observed on 22nd September each year is dedicated to all those who are survivors and sufferers of cancer. On that that roses and gifts are distributed to all cancer patients admitted into the hospitals where Hitaishini runs clinics.
On 7th November, the National Cancer Awareness day volunteers of Hitaishini walk through the main thoroughfare of the city with other Cancer groups, Ladies groups, Rotarians, Inner Wheel and Lion members and the NCC cadets. Songs are sung on the way. At the end point there is a candle lighting ceremony in memory of those who have passed away and praying for the recovery of all cancer afflicted persons still fighting bravely.
During October, buses, trams and autos carry our awareness messages. Banners are put up at road crossings. Throughout the year regular awareness camps are organized at schools, colleges, ladies groups and distant villages.
Seminars and Workshops are organized by Hitaishini to bring concerns of those affected by breast cancer to the attention of the public as well as to keep abreast of new ideas.
Annual picnic is arranged every year on the Survivors Day, second Saturday of February. Survivors and care-givers enjoy it very much with games, music and sumptuous lunch.
